Why LAB is different from a basic saturation slider

LAB describes a pixel with one lightness channel and two colour axes. Magic Colour scales the two colour axes while keeping the calculated lightness value in place. That makes the intent straightforward: increase colour distance without deliberately brightening or darkening the photograph.
